ben 7 metri, suddivisa in tre tratti: duodeno, digiuno e ileo. \u00c8 l\u2019intestino tenue che completa la digestione e assorbe il 90% dei princ\u00ecpi nutritivi. Anatomicamente \u00e8 composto da tre tratti: cieco, colon (a sua volta diviso in ascendente, trasverso, discendente e sigmoideo o ileopelvico) e retto. Nell\u2019intestino crasso avviene l\u2019assorbimento di ci\u00f2 che rimane del cibo ingerito, la formazione delle feci, ma anche il riassorbimento di acqua e sali minerali, nonch\u00e9 la produzione di anticorpi chiamati immunoglobuline. La definizione ha basi scientifiche. L\u2019intestino \u00e8 infatti un crocevia di fibre e trame neuronali, ormoni e neurotrasmettitori connessi al sistema nervoso, o persino dotati di autonomia, come un sistema nervoso a s\u00e9 stante. In questo modo svolge importanti funzioni per il benessere fisico e soprattutto psichico. Per dirne una, la serotonina, \u201cormone delle emozioni\u201d, \u00e8 prodotta in larga misura proprio qui. Ma i due cervelli si scambiano continue informazioni influenzandosi a vicenda, come se avessero un asse diretto. Oltre a questo, il tessuto neuronale dell\u2019intestino, grazie alla sua autonomia, elabora sensazioni e fissa emozioni con una propria memoria. Questo spiega perch\u00e9, se l\u2019intestino soffre, ne risentiamo anche a livello psichico. In breve, il benessere dell\u2019intestino ci rende pi\u00f9 sereni e viceversa. In condizioni normali vive in simbiosi con noi svolgendo numerose funzioni con vantaggi reciproci: ha un ruolo nella motilit\u00e0 intestinale e contribuisce al nostro benessere. Dagli studi degli ultimi vent\u2019anni questa capacit\u00e0 appare sempre pi\u00f9 rilevante e, cosa che sorprende, non si limita all\u2019intestino.
